Introducing Visual Mode on KeepMD

I'm Joseph I Okodugha, 21 from Benin City. I just love building simple software with clean, modern UI/UX. When I'm not coding, I'm probably fixing a UI detail no one asked me to fix. Currently building KeepMD.

We shipped a big update to KeepMD.

For a long time KeepMD was only a source editor. You typed markdown and saw a preview. It worked, but it wasn't how most people want to write.

So we built Visual Mode.

1. Two ways to write

Everyone writes differently.

Visual Mode: You click and type directly on the page. What you see is what you get. No split screen, no raw syntax in your face. Just write.

Source Mode: The classic editor for when you want full control. Built on CodeMirror 6. You can switch between Editor, Split view with a draggable divider, and Preview.

Switch anytime from the header or press Cmd + / / Ctrl + /.

2. Tables that don't suck

Editing markdown tables by hand is painful. You know the drill — counting | characters.

In Visual Mode, click any table cell. A small toolbar appears:

- + Row / - Row — add or remove a row where you are

- + Col / - Col — add or remove a whole column

- Delete Table — remove it clean

It saves back as clean GitHub Flavored Markdown. Nothing proprietary.

3. Formatting that resets when you expect it to

Small fix, big difference.

Before: you write a bold heading, press Enter, and the next line is still bold. You have to manually turn it off.

Now: press Enter and the new line starts as normal text. If you were in a heading or bold, we strip the formatting so you can keep typing.

4. Still private by default

Nothing changed here. And that's the point.

- No accounts

- Notes stay in your browser (IndexedDB)

- Works offline

- We use Counter.dev for basic, cookieless page counts — no personal data, no trackers

The interface is quieter too. Gray icons, less clutter. Your words should be the loudest thing on the screen.

Try it now: keepmd.xyz — no signup.

If you use KeepMD, what are your thoughts about it?
